Four Tips to Select Basins
Every aspect of bathroom renovation is important, such as the basin, which is used daily. If an inappropriate choice is made, it not only results in higher costs but also considerable inconvenience in usage. Particularly, if the height and size are not suitable, bending over to wash one's face and hair can be uncomfortable, and water may splash everywhere, making cleaning a challenging task.
Therefore, here are four tips to choose a basin that suits your needs, and to plan the location of the basin in advance during bathroom renovation, ensuring a practical, convenient, and easy-to-clean basin.
Tip 1: Opt for an integrated basin, followed by an undermount basin
There are various types of basins, including integrated basins, overmount basins, undermount basins, and column basins. For ease of cleaning and better cost-performance ratio, it is recommended to prioritize integrated basins, followed by undermount basins. Both types are relatively easy to clean and have a lower difficulty level in maintaining hygiene. Overmount basins have the advantage of diverse styles and high aesthetic appeal but are slightly more troublesome to clean. If style and appearance are a priority, they can still be a viable option.
It is suggested that the ideal height for a bathroom basin is about 80 to 90 centimeters, which can also be customized based on individual height to avoid excessive bending. A width of 60 to 100 centimeters is more suitable, and a depth of at least 20 centimeters is necessary to prevent water from splashing. If there are many family members who may queue for morning and evening routines, it is advisable to implement a dry-wet separation in the bathroom and move the basin outside, or to install two basins if space allows. For families with children, a footstool can be prepared for easy access.
Tip 3: Choose a drawer-style bathroom cabinet for practicality
For the bathroom cabinet connected to the basin, it is recommended to use a drawer-style cabinet, which offers larger storage capacity, convenient opening and closing, and is more practical with a better cost-performance ratio. Cabinets with hinged doors can also store many toiletries, especially large and tall items. However, drawer-style cabinets utilize the space more efficiently, are easier to operate with one hand, and make it more convenient to access and find items.
Tip 4: Select the correct drainage installation method for the basin
The drainage method for the basin should be chosen correctly, with two main options, each having its own advantages and disadvantages.
Wall Drain: As the name suggests, drainage is through the wall. The advantages include not occupying floor space, being clean, aesthetically pleasing, and less noisy. The downside is that it is more difficult to repair than a floor drain.
Floor Drain: This method uses a vertical pipe for direct drainage. The advantages are simple maintenance and installation, less likelihood of clogging, and larger drainage capacity. The disadvantages include occupying floor space, being difficult to clean, and not as visually appealing.
Overall, it is recommended to choose wall drainage for its aesthetics, low noise level, and ease of cleaning, which is why it is the preferred choice for many nowadays.
Additional points to note when choosing a basin:
1. Pay attention to moisture resistance. It is advisable to leave about 30 centimeters of space at the bottom of the bathroom cabinet to facilitate use and prevent moisture.
2. The basin faucet can be chosen with a retractable and rotatable design for easy adjustment of length and direction, convenient for washing hair or cleaning the basin.
3. The mirror light above the basin should be a fog-resistant light, which is not affected by steam and is convenient to use.
4. The hardware accessories of the bathroom cabinet should be of high quality. Components like hinges, which connect the cabinet doors to the cabinet body, are crucial. Low-quality ones are not durable and may need to be replaced soon, which could end up costing more. It is better to choose good quality accessories from the start.
