How to Achieve a Cozy, Stylish Home: Essential Decorating Tips
Time:2024.11.28 Views:
Since this is our home and we intend to live here long-term, tidiness will directly impact our comfort. In such cases, we may need to make certain choices, such as selecting decorations and storage solutions that prioritize organization over aesthetics, as this better aligns with a long-term living philosophy.
Many people have paid for a wine rack style in the past, only to regret it later. In reality, not only may they not have enough wine to store, but the mess and hygiene issues can make them want to toss it out and start over.
Fortunately, with these impractical decorations, we can recognize the problem. As for how to fix it, my suggestion is to incorporate more drawers into the sideboard.
There are many small items around the dining area, drawers are more organized and storage-friendly than cabinets for these items. Not only do drawers provide better storage, but they are also more convenient for accessing things—not just wine bottles, but also cups, brewed drinks and plates can be stored there.
The key is that once the drawers are closed, everything stays neat and tidy.
Next is the kitchen, with various wall-mounted storage solutions. At first glance, it doesn’t seem like a kitchen designed for long-term living. Not only does it face issues like grease and smoke, but it also suffers from clutter.
While wall-mounted storage may seem like a good idea at first, the blogger's carefully arranged setup often relies on colorful, cheap utensils that end up looking messy and disorganized in the long run.
The kitchen tools and supplies that are truly worth emulating are those that are thoughtfully planned during the renovation, such as installing slim cabinets around the flue.
In any case, it’s better to store everything in a slim cabinet. The location should be right next to the stove, where you can easily access various spice jars and small tools when needed. It’s both convenient and practical.
When the door is closed, the kitchen counter looks neat and uncluttered, creating a more comfortable and organized space.
Finally, the wardrobe. While I'm not sure why the previous wardrobe included so many cabinets. I'm sure everyone can relate to the hassle of folding clothes, struggling to find what you're looking for and dealing with the resulting mess.
The only solution here is to make the wardrobe fully hanging.
By hanging all the clothes, you can easily see everything at a glance. Organizing becomes as simple as just hanging them up. Even when collecting clothes, you don't need to fold them—just hang them directly in the wardrobe, saving a lot of time and effort on household chores.
Next, you can take it a step further by replacing the traditional wardrobe with a metal one. A metal rack can make the space feel larger, as it offers more storage capacity in the same area.
Additionally, by incorporating a walk-in setup on the floor, you can store suitcases, ironing machines, off-season fans, and other items. The adjustable rack is flexible and can be customized based on your needs, turning it into a multifunctional storage solution.
Pay less for luxury and more for experience. Luxury is a perception, and while luxurious decor may look impressive, there will always come a day when it feels tiresome. On the other hand, the experience you create in your space has a lasting impact, directly affecting your everyday feelings.
Therefore, when decorating, it’s better to spend less on achieving a sense of luxury and focus more on enhancing the overall experience. For example, a soft-upholstered feature wall in the bedroom might look elegant, but if it's positioned at a 90° angle to the bed, it can feel uncomfortable.
From a comfort perspective, it’s not as comfortable as a soft, upholstered bed headboard.
As for achieving a sense of luxury, you can opt for a stylish bedside table or even use the bed itself as a decorative element. With the right combination, the result can be just as impressive, if not more so, while still feeling simple and sophisticated.
When it comes to lighting, the most luxurious option is undoubtedly the crystal chandelier. However, to truly enhance the experience, the key is a combination of ambient and accent lighting.
By using lighting strategically, you can create layers and a stronger atmosphere in the home.
A well-executed example, as shown in the image above, when the main lighting elements and key objects are thoughtfully related, yet the light sources are not directly visible. This creates a sophisticated, elevated feel throughout the space.
Don't be fooled by the small size of a luxury item like a fully integrated refrigerator. It looks like a cabinet and has an advanced, high-end appearance. However, to put it simply, compared to a regular refrigerator, it mainly offers an aesthetic experience. While it may look impressive, it requires a higher budget and still has limited capacity. It is not highly recommended.
If you have the budget, it's recommended to buy a large-capacity, dual-circuit refrigerator. It offers more storage space and better preservation capabilities. And if you manage the size carefully, it can fit seamlessly, just like a closet.
Finally, let's talk about sofas. When it comes to luxury sofas, most people probably picture leather seats with functional electric recliners, myself included. However, don't forget that leather comes in various types, like the first layer, second layer, lychee and suede. No matter which type you choose, you’ll not only pay a premium for the brand but also need to invest a significant budget—certainly not something you can buy for just a few thousand dollars.
In terms of usability, leather can be uncomfortable in hot weather, and it requires a lot of maintenance. These factors are often what make leather sofas a luxury item in the first place.
Instead, consider buying a fabric sofa. It costs less, is washable, comfortable and breathable. Plus, you can replace it after a few years without feeling too guilty.
This is a common misconception in home decorating: spending a lot of money on things meant for guests, but that don’t actually improve your own daily life—and sometimes even take up valuable space.
For example, the traditional living room set-up with a sofa and a large coffee table.
Some people buy these because they think it’s the standard, while others buy them thinking that the sofa and coffee table will provide enough seating and space for relatives and friends to gather.
But how often do we actually have guests over? Once? Twice a year? Instead of dedicating space to something used so infrequently, it might be better to prioritize your own lifestyle and needs.
At this point, you can redesign your living room based on how you actually use the space, rather than sticking to a traditional layout.
For example, if you love reading, why not turn your living room into a space that supports your hobby, like adding a bookcase?
Or, if you enjoy drinking tea, you could create a dedicated tea area in your living room.
Or, if you don't have a specific hobby and simply enjoy relaxing in the living room while catching up on your favorite shows, you can just spread out a cushion and make yourself comfortable.
As for flooring, if you want to create the illusion of more space and make the room feel larger, I recommend choosing wood-look porcelain tiles.
Wood-look porcelain tiles are high-end ceramic flooring materials with wood grain patterns on the surface. They offer a realistic, natural, and simple texture, and are easy to maintain. Unlike wood floors, they don’t suffer from fading or wear and tear. The tiles feature bright, clear lines and distinct patterns that mimic the fine texture of real wood.
Wood-look porcelain tiles are waterproof, easy to clean and resistant to fire and corrosion. They're also an eco-friendly building material with a long lifespan. Unlike wood floors, they don't require periodic waxing or special maintenance, making them a durable and low-maintenance choice.
Wood-look porcelain tiles completely address the designer's concern that the extensive use of wood elements is often limited in wet areas, such as bathrooms. They solve the problem of limited material options for bathroom decor, making it possible to maintain overall consistency in the interior design of the home.
